June Rothe was born in Sylacauga, Alabama, on March 17, 1937. A St. Patrick’s Day baby, she was the only child. She spent the majority of her childhood in Alabama, the exception being when her father was in the Navy and she and her mother lived with an aunt and uncle in California. Some of her favorite childhood memories stem from this time, playing with cousins in California, and also with friends in Birmingham. Playing in the mud and being outdoors helped her to realize she must be a “Tomboy!” June graduated from high school in Fairhope, Alabama, and went on to attend Auburn University. While there she received her BS in Chemistry and Biology. While at Auburn, she met Wolfram Rothe and fell in love! After college they married and moved to Huntsville. She became a lab technician and he a mechanical engineer with NASA. This was an exciting time in the NASA program and she met many interesting people who were involved in it. June and Wolfram had two daughters, Lyn and Beth. When they were born she began staying at home with them. She was very active in their lives, PTA, Brownies and Girl Scouts. One of their favorite things to do was go RVing. June says it was fun and educational! Upon retirement she and Wolfram traveled all over the United States for nearly fifteen years. They belonged to WBCCI, an Airstream travel trailer club. Currently at Morning Pointe, June enjoys painting and coloring, playing games, and exercising. June is a great addition to our family!
