The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Lenoir City (TN) executive director Lisa Harvey, Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding (STAR) founder and executive director Lynn Petr, and Lantern program director Maggie Devaney celebrate the ongoing partnership between the memory care community and the stable. Four times a year, representatives from STAR brings some of the stable’s miniature horses to The Lantern to spend time with the residents and Devaney recently provided STAR staff and volunteers with Alzheimer’s and dementia training as the stable prepares to begin hosting homebound seniors with memory impairments and their caregivers. “Our partnership with STAR truly is the best kind of partnership because it benefits both parties mutually,” Harvey says. “Their therapy horses provide our residents with comfort and affection, and we are able to be a resource for them on Alzheimer’s and dementia care.”
