Residents from the Morning Pointe of Russell (KY) personal care and Alzheimer’s memory care campus enjoy a bountiful trip to Simple Harvest Homestead in Louisa, Kentucky. As the campus’s “Farm-to-Table” partner, Simple Harvest provides the Morning Pointe food service team with fresh produce to use when preparing residents’ meals. Owner Eddie Joe Maynard and his family hosted campus residents for a day on the farm, where they enjoyed a farm tour, a lively educational discussion about the farm’s operation, and even had the opportunity to stroll through the greenhouse and pick fresh vegetables straight from the vine. “We wanted our residents to be able to meet the faces behind the fresh produce they receive,” explains Morning Pointe life enrichment director Katie Smith. “Establishing and keeping these relationships is important to us, and outings like this allow our residents to feel like they’re a part of the workings of their community. We definitely plan to return to Simple Harvest and are hoping to make our trips quarterly events.”
