The residents at Morning Pointe of Tullahoma are putting their best foot forward.
In partnership with Gentiva Health Care, the assisted living residents are motivated to walk “across America” through the program “Step On It.”
In the program, each senior uses a pedometer to track their daily walking distances.
Dustin Groce, physical therapy assistant with Gentiva Health Care, logs the miles walked by each participant daily, combining their total distance walked in miles.
Since August 16, the residents walked the distance it would take to reach Nashville from their home — roughly 75 miles. To celebrate, Morning Pointe threw a party with RC Cola and Moon Pies. Their next “destination” is Chicago, Ill., which is another 450 miles away.
“Our residents are walking more than ever,” says Marcia Massengill, Life Enrichment Director at Morning Pointe. “Through this program, they are enjoying the rewards of better health as they strive for their next destination.”
