Residents and associates from Morning Pointe of Franklin (IN) celebrate a successful first session with the students of Dr. Jason Jimerson’s first-year seminar class “Life Examined: In Pursuit of Your Best Self” at Franklin College. The assisted living and Alzheimer’s memory care community is partnering with the college to match students with senior mentors for the semester. Once a week, the students will interview their mentors, asking for general wisdom and life advice. “Our residents want to change the students’ mindset that communities like ours are filled with residents who are frail and bitter. They want to show the students that they are still alive, active, and full of knowledge,” says Morning Pointe life enrichment director Mary Beth Piland. “Dr. Jimerson feels the older generation has a lot of knowledge to pass on to our youth. Knowledge is power, and who better to provide that knowledge than those who have successfully navigated life’s challenges for many years?”
