LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (May 12, 2021) – The 6th Annual Morning Pointe Foundation Mastering Memory Care Golf Tournament was held this week at the Lookout Mountain Club, raising over $60,000 toward support for the Foundation’s mission of providing nursing scholarships to community colleges and caregiver support programs for aging seniors.
Nearly 30 teams from around the Tennessee Valley participated in the tournament, led by Presenting Sponsors First Horizon Bank and Propel Insurance, Inc. After a fun and challenging 18 holes of golf, FirstBank’s team of John Wise, Chuck Fisher, Bill Towers, and Lee Starks emerged triumphant with a score of 53. Second place finish went to Bank of Lafayette/Southern Land Lady’s team of Joe Andrews, Dave Gilbert, Crawford Collett, and Josh Wall with a score of 57. Third place went to RBS’ team of Ron Lee, Paul Sok, Alexander Kwon, and Harry Gang with a score of 59.
“With all that has happened during the past year locally and globally, I’m so grateful that this annual event was able to be held this year,” said Audra Hopkins, executive director of the Morning Pointe Foundation. “The Mastering Memory Care golf event is vital to the mission of the Foundation, and because of the generosity of our sponsors and donors, we are able to help make the future a little brighter for nursing students at our partner community colleges and also support families who are caring for aging loved ones.”
Since its founding in 2014 by senior healthcare entrepreneurs Greg A. Vital and J. Franklin Farrow, the Morning Pointe Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Chattanooga-based Morning Pointe Senior Living, has provided more than 60 nursing students with scholarship funds. The 501(c)3 non-profit organization has forged local partnerships with Chattanooga State, Cleveland State, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and Southern Adventist University, providing financial assistance to students pursuing a degree in geriatric nursing. In total, the Morning Pointe Foundation is committed to partnerships with ten colleges in the states of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama.
“The annual Mastering Memory Care Golf Tournament at the Lookout Mountain Club has continued to grow year after year, thanks to our many supporters,” said Greg A. Vital, president of Morning Pointe Senior Living. “The funds raised at this event afford us a great opportunity to serve seniors through community support groups and scholarships for nursing students. It is important that we continue to promote educational resources for all caregivers while building a strong workforce.”
The Morning Pointe Foundation will team up with Morning Pointe of Athens (TN) later this summer to host a sister Mastering Memory Care Golf Tournament at Ridgewood Golf Club. The event is scheduled for July 28.
