(February 2, 2021) – The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Spring Hill, is hosting a monthly virtual support group for caregivers of people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The virtual session is held on the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. CST and features Dr. David Hutchings, PhD, a geriatric neuropathologist and chief operating officer for Spectramed, as a regular guest. A nationally-recognized speaker, Dr. Hutchings specializes in working with families to help them cope with the challenges they face in caring for a loved one with memory impairment.

“This is the most difficult journey someone can go through—their loved one not remembering who they are,” said Dr. Hutchings. “Thanks to support groups like the one at The Lantern at Morning Pointe in Spring Hill, you can walk through this journey with others and know someone else is going through the same thing that you are.”

The online support group is facilitated by Lantern program director Mallory Mullins, who leads The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Spring Hill’s memory care programming.

“Caring for an aging loved one with memory care disorders can be exasperating,” said Mullins. “Dr. Hutchings is a gifted memory care specialist who understands the neural responses of a person living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, and helps families find ways to communicate and deal with these unique and often upsetting challenges. His methodologies and solutions are life-changing!”
