Chattanooga, TN,  January 22, 2014- Independent Healthcare Properties, LLC (IHP) and Morning Pointe Senior Living announces the 2013 Exceeding Expectations Awards for the year. The annual associate honor for the Southern region was presented to Doug Burrell, the maintenance director for Morning Pointe of Athens, TN and for the northern region, it was given to Latrice Hubbard, a certified nursing assistant at Morning Pointe of Frankfort, KY.

Both were recognized at the company’s Christmas. They received a special plaque and $500. “I am very much honored and very surprised,” said Burrell. “I have made it clear to all of the associates at Morning Pointe of Athens that this award is not for me; it is for us.”

Latrice was just as excited. “I never thought doing what I loved would come with great success. Morning Pointe is like being part of a family—it feels like home.”

The Exceeding Expectations Award recognizes an individual’s outstanding achievement and willingness to go above and beyond their responsibilities in making sure residents receive exceptional care and service. At the end of each year, two overall winners are chosen out of 60 quarterly winners to represent the Northern and Southern regions.

Burrell has been the Maintenance Director at Morning Pointe of Athens for six years. He comes from a long-standing family owned local print shop where he learned much of what he knows today. “We couldn’t afford to call a maintenance person when something went wrong; so we did 95% of all the maintenance work. I learned from trial and error,” said Burrell.

His exceptional work came to light through nominations from family and associates from his assisted living community earlier this year. They specifically noted his ability to accomplish daily responsibilities with a dedicated heart and his eagerness to lend a helping hand to residents and staff. “It’s more of a calling. I think it’s an honor to get up every morning and do what you love to do with people, the staff, and residents you love and you go home with a paycheck.”

“Doug and Latrice’s knowledge, professionalism and willingness to perform exceptional work and customer service makes them the perfect candidates for this special award,” said Greg A. Vital, President and CEO of IHP and Morning Pointe. “What Morning Pointe provides to each and every resident every single day would not be possible if it weren’t for associates like Doug and Latrice and we are very grateful to have him on our Morning Pointe team.”

Latrice’s exceptional work was noticed by many.  Family and associates shared on their nomination forms how she responded calmly and compassionately to an emergency situation with a resident. She actually got down on the ground and stayed beside the resident until EMTs arrived. “She tells me every day and her family too, how much that meant to her, how they were glad I was there by her side,” said Hubbard. “It made me feel good that I could be there for somebody. I would do it for anybody.”
