Volunteer Brings Pet, Poetry to Morning Pointe
Volunteer Susan Ellis frequently brings her dog, Piper, to The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Clinton for the residents to interact with as part of the memory care community’s pet therapy program. However, on her last visit, she brought more than Piper—she also brought a copy of The Poetry of Robert Frost to donate to The Lantern’s library.
Sarah Smith, the Lantern Program Director at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Clinton, explains the inspiration behind Ellis’s thoughtful gift. “She [Ellis] had been here two weeks before and noticed our residents had enjoyed listening to a poem by Robert Frost I had […] read to them, so she thought they would enjoy more of his work,” Smith says. “What a sweet surprise from a sweet volunteer!”
