The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Franklin (TN) resident Wanda Boyce lovingly cuddles one of the memory care community’s most recent fluffy, four-legged visitors. Every Sunday, The Lantern receives special animal guests in order to provide pet therapy for the residents. “We are indebted to a local group of volunteers who take turns each week bringing friendly dogs to visit with residents and staff,” says Lantern executive director Ashley Briggs. “Residents always look forward to their visits, and pet therapy has been shown to help to reduce anxiety, engage residents at all stages, and help connect residents to guests and staff.”
