“Moments of Grace” Memory Caregiver Summit to Help Chattanooga Families Navigate Dementia Care

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (September 11, 2026) — Caring for a loved one living with dementia can leave families facing difficult questions at every turn. Changes in behavior, healthcare coverage, legal decisions and the day-to-day demands of caregiving can quickly become overwhelming, especially when families are trying to figure out where to turn for answers and support.

The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Chattanooga, and Morning Pointe of Chattanooga will host “Moments of Grace,” a Memory Caregiver Summit designed to educate, encourage and equip those caring for loved ones living with dementia, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Morning Pointe of Chattanooga, 7719 Shallowford Road.

The free evening will bring together resources and practical information to help caregivers better understand some of the challenges they may encounter while caring for a loved one at home. Rather than trying to navigate these decisions alone, families will have an opportunity to hear from professionals, ask questions and learn about resources that may help them feel more prepared for the road ahead.

Topics will include:

  • How do I navigate changes in behavior? Caregivers will learn more about changes that can occur with dementia and ways to respond.
  • How does Medicare open enrollment affect my care options? Families can learn how Medicare decisions may affect available healthcare and care services.
  • How can I stay healthy and balanced as a caregiver? The session will address the importance of caregiver well-being and practical ways to manage the demands of caregiving.
  • How does a power of attorney work, and when is a conservatorship needed? Attendees can gain a better understanding of these legal tools and when they may become part of a family’s planning.
  • What are some alternative community care opportunities for my loved one? Families can explore additional community resources and care options that may provide support for both caregivers and their loved ones.

“Families caring for someone with dementia are often trying to solve problems as they come up, and it can be difficult to know what questions to ask or where to find reliable information,” said Nena Mitchell, executive director of The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Chattanooga. “Moments of Grace is an opportunity for caregivers to step away from the day-to-day for a few hours, connect with people who can help and leave with information they can actually use. We want them to know they are not alone in this.”

The event is free, but RSVPs are required. Families can RSVP by emailing chattanooga-lan-crd@morningpointe.com.

Companion care will be provided during the event for loved ones living with dementia, allowing caregivers to attend the summit and focus on the information being shared.

T-shirts will be available for purchase for $20, with proceeds benefiting the Morning Pointe Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Morning Pointe Senior Living that supports caregiver education and scholarships for students pursuing careers in healthcare and related fields.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Morning Pointe Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public service organization that provides caregiver support programs, sponsors educational awareness events, and funds clinical scholarships in nursing, clinical therapy, culinary arts, and social work.
