Nick Martin, a volunteer at Morning Pointe of Richmond Assisted Living, was recently named Volunteer of the Year at the annual Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities/Kentucky Center for Assisted Living (KAHCF/KCAL) awards ceremony.

Martin lived at the community several years ago with his mother until she passed away. He went to live with his sister, and since then, he has come to volunteer daily. Since he does not drive, he walks to the building. He leads the exercise group each morning, accompanies the life enrichment director on outings, calls bingo in the evenings and helps with other activities. He even helped start up a walking club and card-playing group.

“Nick is a dedicated volunteer who could not be easily replaced,” said Cristy Winkler, executive director at Morning Pointe of Richmond. He is so deserving of this award for his dedication and the love that he shows to our community.”

At the ceremony, Martin received a special award plaque.

“Volunteers make such a difference at our communities, and the residents at our Richmond community truly love interacting with Nick,” said Kendell Stratton, vice president of Morning Pointe Senior Living’s Bluegrass Region. “Thank you, Nick, for the love that you show to our senior residents and the time and effort you put into enriching their lives.”

Morning Pointe of Richmond provides assisted living services with nursing, clinical and care staff available 24 hours a day; meals with dietician oversight and an emphasis on fresh, local produce; a full life enrichment activity program; engaging community partnerships; and on-site physical, occupational and speech therapy services.

The community is one of 12 communities in Kentucky operated by Morning Pointe Senior Living.  Founded in 1997 by senior healthcare entrepreneurs Greg A. Vital and J. Franklin Farrow, Morning Pointe operates 40 assisted living and Alzheimer’s memory care communities in five southeastern states.
