New Boones Creek campus will bring assisted living, memory care, jobs and expanded senior care services to growing community
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 9, 2026) – Morning Pointe Senior Living will break ground Tuesday, Sept. 22, on Morning Pointe at Boones Creek, marking the company’s first community in Johnson City and a significant new investment in senior care and economic growth in Washington County and the surrounding region.
The $18 million first phase will feature a single-story assisted living and memory care community with 82 apartments, including 58 assisted living apartments and 24 memory care apartments specially designed for residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss. The project is expected to create approximately 200 construction jobs and 200 permanent healthcare professional careers, with a positive economic impact of more than $35 million annually, considering payroll, property taxes and local purchases of goods and services.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 145 Highland Church Road, Johnson City, TN 37615. The ceremony will be held outdoors under a covered tent at the future site of Morning Pointe at Boones Creek.
The single-story design puts the entire community on one level, making living spaces, dining, programming and other services easily accessible without stairs or elevators.
The new campus will be Morning Pointe’s first community in Johnson City, 26th community in Tennessee and 43rd community companywide, expanding the company’s longstanding presence in East Tennessee. Morning Pointe continues to expand its senior living model throughout Tennessee, with communities in Greeneville, Clinton, Hardin Valley, Knoxville, Lenoir City and Powell.
As Boones Creek and the greater Johnson City area continue to grow, the new community will provide another option for local seniors and families seeking personalized senior living and memory care close to home.
The 20-acre campus will be developed in two phases. Phase I will include the 82-apartment assisted living and memory care community. Phase II will add a freestanding Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence with 60 additional memory care apartments. Once both phases are complete, the campus is planned to include 142 assisted living and memory care apartments, significantly expanding senior care options in the region.

Care Designed Around Each Resident
Programming at Morning Pointe at Boones Creek will focus on clinical care, wellness and purposeful engagement. Individual senior living care plans will be coordinated by licensed nurses in partnership with area healthcare providers. Healthcare professionals will oversee residents’ wellness and medication administration, and licensed clinical and care staff will be available 24 hours a day.
Residents will have access to on-site physical, occupational and speech therapy services, as well as a full life enrichment program featuring exercise classes, regular outings, service projects, intergenerational programming and community partnerships.
The memory care program will include specialized dementia care training for all staff and Morning Pointe’s Meaningful Day™️ program. At the heart of the approach is a personalized rhythm of life that supports each resident’s emotional, social, physical and cognitive well-being. Every meal, interaction and activity is part of a structured flow designed to build confidence, reduce anxiety and create moments of success.
The campus will also feature Morning Pointe’s Farm to Table culinary program, incorporating fresh, local and seasonal produce into restaurant-style dining with dietitian oversight.
Groundbreaking Set for Sept. 22
The groundbreaking will bring together leaders and community partners from across Johnson City and Washington County to celebrate the new campus and its future role in the community.

The celebration will also include participation from local schools and faith organizations. David Crockett High School’s Navy JROTC will participate in the ceremony, while students from Providence Academy’s orchestra and choral programs will provide music. Rev. Joel Cook of Marvin’s Chapel Methodist Church will take part in the ceremony, with Dan and Pam Walters, also associated with the church, providing music.
