HIXSON, Tenn. (August 12, 2026) — Planning for the future can be difficult to talk about, especially when it involves aging, caregiving and decisions families may one day face. But for families who have already experienced the challenges of caregiving, having those conversations early can make all the difference.
That was the focus of a recent community event at Morning Pointe of Hixson, where Chattanooga attorney, author and speaker Nancy A. Cogar shared information from her BoomerTime Blueprint™ with local seniors, families and community members.
The event gave attendees an opportunity to ask questions, learn about preparing for the future and consider steps they can take now to help protect themselves and their families.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this vital information with seniors,” said Cogar. “The BoomerTime™ Blueprint was created to help people plan for aging in the midst of the Silver Tsunami. That is one of the best steps families can take to prepare for the needs that may arise in the future.”
Attendees also had the opportunity to purchase Cogar’s book and have it personally autographed following the presentation.

For Joni Eldretge, whose mother is a resident at Morning Pointe of Hixson, the conversation was especially meaningful. Eldretge has experienced caregiving firsthand, including caring for her mother and navigating the loss of her father.
“I’m pretty passionate about this myself because I have been a caregiver for my mom,” Eldretge said. “I just don’t want my kids to have to go through some of the things that we did.”
Eldretge said her family has already taken steps to prepare for the future, but she appreciated having the opportunity to continue learning and identify areas where she still had questions.
“You just need to keep listening,” she said. “As new things come up, you listen to other people’s experiences. I think it’s great.”
Her experience reflects one of the larger goals of community education events like the BoomerTime Blueprint presentation: encouraging families to begin conversations before difficult decisions become urgent.
For families caring for an aging loved one, planning can involve everything from legal and financial considerations to understanding future care needs. Having those conversations early can give families more time to make informed decisions and ensure their loved ones’ wishes are understood.
Morning Pointe Senior Living regularly hosts educational and community events designed to connect seniors, families and caregivers with information and resources that can help them navigate the aging journey.
“Events like this give families an opportunity to ask questions and start conversations that can sometimes be difficult to have at home,” said Robin Jackson, executive director of Morning Pointe of Hixson. “The more families understand about the aging process and the choices available to them, the more prepared they can be when those decisions arise.”
The conversation will continue later this month when Cogar visits Morning Pointe of East Hamilton for another presentation of the BoomerTime™ Blueprint. Community members are invited to attend and learn more about planning for the future, preparing for aging and navigating the decisions families may face.
