During 2023, the Morning Pointe Foundation was busy adding partner schools… and adding three new types of scholarships.
A little background: The Morning Pointe Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Morning Pointe Senior Living. Founded in 2014, the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization provides scholarship opportunities, forms community partnerships, and supports caregivers in its mission to advance the care of seniors.
Traditionally, the Foundation has provided nursing scholarships. Since 2018, it has also provided a scholarship for occupational therapy students at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. This year, however, scholarships opened up to students of Social Work, Physical Therapy, and Culinary Arts.
“The Foundation has been blessed with growth, and we wanted to act fast on that growth with appreciation by giving out more scholarships,” said Miranda Perez, Morning Pointe Foundation Executive Director. “We chose these three new categories knowing that when people look at moving to senior living, they look at food and activities. The Foundation recognizes that in senior care, nutrition and staying active are both vital for overall health. These new scholarships are just another way we can help provide the full circle of care for the senior community.”
Details About the Scholarships
The Social Work scholarship will be presented for the 2023-2024 school year and the 2024-2025 school year at Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia. It is worth $1,500.
David Elrod, Director of the Dalton State Foundation, shared: “We know this relationship will pay dividends for the future of our community when these students graduate and become productive citizens and professionals. The quality of our nursing and social work programs makes this partnership a natural fit.”
Physical Therapy scholarships will be presented for this school year at:
- Roane State Community College in Roane County, Tennessee, worth $1,500. The Foundation is also adding an Occupational Therapy scholarship for the same amount. This is new to the school, although not new to the Foundation.
- Eastern Kentucky University, worth $1,500. This joins the $1,500 occupational therapy scholarship the Foundation has provided there for the last five years.
Dr. Jamie Woolery, Student Engagement Director of the College of Health Sciences at EKU, shared: “The generosity of the Morning Pointe Foundation has benefited our students immensely and will continue to do so. Our students are tremendous forces for change within our campus community and their own local communities. The substantial gifts that the Morning Pointe Foundation has provided are helping to create the future of healthcare, Kentucky, and our world.”
The Culinary scholarship will be presented for the 2023-2024 school year at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee. It is worth $1,000. The Foundation is also presenting a nursing scholarship at the college.
“The scholarships for nursing and culinary arts students will assist our students in reaching their educational goals,” said Dr. Tony Miksa, President of Walters State. “While the connection between Morning Pointe and nursing may be obvious, culinary arts students are prepared to provide quality dining services in residential settings such as retirement communities.”
The Foundation is excited to present these new scholarships this school year. Stay tuned to meet the winners in the months to come!
In 2023, the Morning Pointe Foundation has given out 20 scholarships. As we enter 2024, the Foundation looks forward to providing these new scholarships to bless new students entering the workforce. Through them, we hope to bless seniors throughout the Southeast.
