The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Frankfort invites local community members to a free drop-in dementia screening event on July 23 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The clinic is designed as an initial screening for those concerned with their loved one’s decreasing memory and cognitive function. Those who have been recently diagnosed with dementia can also benefit from the one-on-one education.
Jessica Byers, area clinical coordinator for The Weston Group Rehabilitation Services and an occupational therapist, will conduct the screenings. Byers is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and a Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional. She treats patients at The Lantern and other Morning Pointe Senior Living communities in the area, which offer on-site physical, occupational and speech therapy services to help residents live as independently as possible.
“Screenings like this can help you identify early signs of dementia that often get dismissed as something else,” said Byers. “Recognizing these changes early and implementing appropriate strategies can help slow rate of decline, keep people safer and help families or caregivers understand how to best support their loved one.”
The screening also includes insights into aging and dementia, as well as stages of dementia.
The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Frankfort, is located at 66 C. Michael Davenport Blvd.
