FRANKLIN, Ind. — Morning Pointe of Franklin residents made yet another milestone — walking the distance of Atlantic City to San Francisco without leaving the comfort of their own home.
In partnership with The Weston Group of St. Vincent Home Health, a local therapy provider, the residents — with pedometers clipped to their hips — “walked” across the United States.
Since June 1, the seniors at the assisted living and memory care community have clocked 3,091 miles. Tracking their mileage on a community chart, the residents added stars to each day they walked, inspired to meet their goals.
Twice a week, therapists with The Weston Group, visit the community, bringing encouragement to help the seniors achieve their goals.
“We are proud to say that this feat has been accomplished,” says Mary Beth Piland, life enrichment director at Morning Pointe. “It means so much that everyone came together to help us finish our walk. We want to encourage health and wellness in our residents, and the residents are very proud to be able to say they have met this goal.”
To commemorate their achievements, the residents marked the state of Indiana’s 200th anniversary as their day of celebration. With a homemade “torch” in hand, Rick Mosbaugh, Morning Pointe resident, led the 28 residents in a march around the community with pride.
