Team at The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Frankfort brings resident home for holiday visit

Linda Hahn has a deep love of Christmas – the lights, the decorations, the food. She and her husband of 35 years, Bert, have celebrated many holidays together and enjoyed the time with family and friends.

In January 2022, Linda moved in to The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Frankfort, Kentucky, for the care she needed. Bert faithfully comes every day to visit his wife, often bringing her sweet treats and a special meal for dinner, whether it’s homemade or something he picks up that he knows she likes.

As Christmas 2023 was approaching, he shared with KenEdy Harford, Lantern Program Director, how much Linda loves Christmas. Linda thought maybe she and her team could make a little extra holiday cheer and family traditions happen. With Bert, they planned an outing for Linda to go home with Bert for a visit.

“He spent a few weeks getting all these Christmas decorations up,” KenEdy said. “We loaded Linda up in the van, took her home, and when she got there, she talked more than I have heard her talk.”

Vanessa Damron, Business Office Manager, and Becky Parris, Housekeeper, accompanied Linda and KenEdy.

Bert welcomed his dear wife with much joy.

The familiar and dear sights, sounds, smells, and tastes awoke memories in Linda. Bert had thoughtfully prepared not only the decorations but also one of her favorite meals. He made soup and cherry cobbler (cobbler is his signature dish), and she ate her fill.

Linda reminisced about hosting Christmas parties. And she got to spend time not only with Bert but with other friends who came for the occasion – schoolmates, a cousin and others.

Although the visit was just that – a visit – the experience was meaningful to Linda, Bert, and everyone who got to be a part of it.

“Having her back at the house meant the world to me,” said Bert. “She is my best friend. She is my sweetheart, my friend, and my lover. I love her so much, and I loved having her home.”

Thank you to The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Frankfort team who went above and beyond to bring a Christmas blessing to this precious family!
