The 5th Annual Lexington Seniors Got Talent variety show produced by the Morning Pointe Foundation is introducing some big changes this year, including a lowered age of competition and additional prize money.
The 2024 Lexington show, which the Foundation puts on in conjunction with Morning Pointe Senior Living, will take place on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Lexington Opera House. Ten to 12 local senior acts will compete.
This year, the Foundation has lowered the minimum age of contestants from 62 to 60. This opens the doors to a wider variety of talent in the greater Lexington community. Seniors Got Talent is open to any talented seniors (not just Morning Pointe campus residents). Acts have included singers, musicians, dancers, poets, comedians and more.
More changes for this year’s Seniors Got Talent show include an increase in prize winnings. The grand-prize winner will receive $1,000, with $500 going to the second-place winner and $250 awarded to the third-place winner.
Online auditions are open now at morningpointefoundation.com/events/seniors-got-talent/. In-person auditions will take place July 8-18 at local Morning Pointe Senior Living campuses. Tickets will be $10 and will go on sale in August.
The purpose of Seniors Got Talent is twofold: to give local seniors a place to shine, and to raise funds for the Morning Pointe Foundation through sponsorships and ticket sales.
“Our Lexington show continues to see so much growth year after year,” said Miranda Perez, Morning Pointe Foundation executive director. “In 2023, we had a record number of auditions and a fabulous turnout, and I guarantee you everyone who came to the show left entertained and inspired. Not only that, but the monies raised by the show went on to impact local students and give them a chance to achieve their own dreams. We can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store!”
The Morning Pointe Foundation hosts four Seniors Got Talent shows each year. Besides Lexington shows are held in Chattanooga, Franklin and Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Morning Pointe Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Morning Pointe Senior Living founded by senior healthcare entrepreneurs Greg A. Vital and J. Franklin Farrow. The nonprofit was created in 2014 and has bestowed more than 111 scholarships in the Southeast to date.
