Morning Pointe of Danville Assisted Living’s Grand Opening Holiday Event on Thursday brought home the Christmas spirit in all the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of celebration.
Around 200 people, including residents, associates, community leaders and supporters gathered at the campus, located at 100 Birney Place, for the program of music, speakers, a ribbon-cutting, tours and heavy hors d’oeuvres. The Boyle County Advanced High School Choir kicked off the program with “Veni, Veni Emmanuel Ero Cras,” and closed it with “Mary, Did You Know?” Basil Hall, pastor at the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church, gave the invocation, and the American Legion of Danville #18 led out in a flag ceremony and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Greg A. Vital, Morning Pointe Senior Living co-founder and president, gave an overview of the project. The new assisted living community is Phase II of the Morning Pointe of Danville campus, completing the continuum of care. Residents have been moving in since October, and the community is continuing to welcome new residents. On the same campus is Phase I, now The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Danville, which is also welcoming new residents for early and later-stage memory care.
“This grand opening of our 40th community marks a significant milestone for Morning Pointe as we expand our services in Danville,” Vital said. “This new community is designed to provide residents with the perfect balance of independence, comfort and care, creating a warm and welcoming environment for seniors and their families.”
James “J.H.” Atkins, Danville mayor, was one of the speakers at the event. He shared, “We are a growing community, and our community is growing in age, so we are excited about a great facility that our citizens can experience.”
Other speakers included Aletha Bruzek, chair of the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce; Lisa Keller, executive director at Morning Pointe of Danville Assisted Living; Dalton Hendron, resident ambassador at the community; and Ellen Goldey, vice president of academic affairs and the dean of the college at Centre College.
Goldey said, “There is a strong relationship between Centre College and Morning Pointe, and I think there is an opportunity to really bring life-long learning to Morning Pointe, with the residents and our students teaching and learning from each other.”
