The Morning Pointe Foundation is announcing exciting changes for its 8th Annual Mastering Memory Golf Tournament on Aug. 22.
Traditionally, the tournament has taken place at the Lookout Mountain Club in the spring. This year, however, the club underwent renovations during that time. The club held its reopening on June 20 and offers a new playing experience. The Morning Pointe Mastering Memory Golf Tournament is one of the first events on the new course.
The renovation was led by Tyler Rae and Kyle Franz, renowned golf course architects, who aimed to bring back the original beauty and charm of the site. The greens, bunkers, fairways and roughs were all redone, and the team created a more advanced irrigation system to sustain the new course.
The renovated course isn’t the only thing new about the tournament this year. The Lookout Mountain Club recently welcomed Brian M. Anderson as its head golf professional. He has been a PGA member since 2012 and will be the club’s host for the event. He has also donated a free 45-minute private golf lesson as one of the tournament’s big prizes (a $100 value).
Scoring will also look different this year. Players will use the Golf Genius app, which sends data back to the clubhouse in real time for live viewing of the tournament’s progress.
With all the advances, the heart of the fundraising tournament remains the same. Proceeds go to the Morning Pointe Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Morning Pointe Senior Living founded by senior healthcare entrepreneurs Greg A. Vital and J. Franklin Farrow. The Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, allocates tournament funds for clinical scholarships at local community colleges and universities. These include Chattanooga State Community College, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Southern Adventist University and Cleveland State Community College.
“There’s a lot to be excited about regarding this year’s tournament,” said Miranda Perez, Foundation executive director. “There’s a new course, new scoring, great new prizes and more… but the best part is that it all benefits students in our area who want to pursue an education in nursing. We are not just competing for prizes – we are providing brighter futures and helping our community combat the worldwide nursing shortage.”
The Lookout Mountain Club is located at 1739 Wood Nymph Trail in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Registration and breakfast will start at 7:30 a.m., with the shotgun start at 8:30. The event will conclude with an awards luncheon at 1 p.m.
The biggest prize this year will be a 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport provided by Land Rover of Chattanooga. The vehicle will go to the winner of the hole-in-one contest at Hole 13. Other contests will include longest drive, putting and closest to the hole. The event will also include an auction to bid on prizes from sponsors around the Chattanooga area.

Miller & Martin is the cart sponsor, and Chattanooga State Community College is the tee sponsor.

Last year’s tournament raised nearly $80,000 for the Foundation for student scholarships.
