For June Wiley, who turned 103 on Feb. 4, Morning Pointe of Danville, Kentucky, is truly her home and family.
June moved in more than six years ago as she was losing her eyesight. “I came to Morning Pointe early so I could get used to things,” she said. “I needed someplace to go to be taken care of.”
She discovered Morning Pointe of Danville through her nephew, who noticed new construction in Danville. He took a closer look and discovered it was going to be a senior living community. It turned out to be great timing and a great fit for June.
Originally from Mercer County, Kentucky, June worked for the Harrodsburg Herald newspaper for 63 years, assisting with measuring photos and putting together the layout. She was also active at Mackville Christian Church and especially her ladies’ Sunday school class. She never married, but she has always been well loved in her community.
The team at Morning Pointe of Danville has embraced her and takes extra time to help her with meaningful activities. She enjoys entertainers and mealtimes and loves getting cards from her friends. Because she is blind, associates and volunteers read those cards to her, along with her Bible and the newspaper.
“Everybody is so nice you just feel like you’re in one family,” June said. “If you need help, they’re right here to help you. I have a lot of good friends. If you’re sad, they help you feel good.” One associate even went the extra mile and bought June a new pair of pajamas for Christmas this past year.
When we asked June what means the most to her about living at Morning Pointe of Danville, she said, “The way people love me.”
