Tammy Roberts’ nursing career really started at age 14 when she started volunteering at her local hospital. Now director of nursing at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Frankfort, Kentucky, her journey in the field of nursing has been a rewarding one.

The candy striper volunteer position turned into a job at a skilled nursing facility in Shelbyville when Tammy was 15. She worked after school serving seniors from 4-9 p.m.

Over the years, she also worked in memory care and personal care, and in 2006, Tammy officially became a licensed practical nurse.

She has experience as a night shift nurse, MDS coordinator, unit manager, and infection control nurse.

Tammy joined the team at The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Frankfort in August 2022 as a night shift nurse. She was the director of nursing at Morning Pointe of Frankfort for about a year and left Morning Pointe for a while before returning as DON at The Lantern. She has earned the respect of fellow Morning Pointe associates.

Lisa Keller, executive director at the community, shared, “Tammy is a very devoted and caring director of nursing. Her years of experience in senior living add value to our community, and we are very blessed to have her. She wants her team to succeed, and she wants the best for the residents and families. She shows her dedication to Morning Pointe by showing up every day and doing her very best.”

Tammy remains focused on fall prevention and compliance, and she is often found doing assessments. She doesn’t shy away from working night shifts and weekends either.

“Tammy is the kind of friend and team leader who before you even have to ask for a set of hands, she’s there,” said Mariah Curry, community relations director at the campus.

“I love our residents, and I live to see them have meaningful days,” Tammy said. “Finding something they enjoy that makes them smile and have a sense of purpose is what is most important. I enjoy our care plan meetings and building relationships with the families as well. I appreciate them entrusting us to care for their precious loved ones.”

Family, after all, is close to Tammy’s heart. She has four children and six grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Morning Pointe is thankful that Tammy has chosen to share her experience and caring heart with our residents and fellow associates.

As Vanessa Damron, business office manager at The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Frankfort, shared: “Tammy is one heck of a DON!”
