A Morning Pointe Couch Conversation: Maintenance Director Day

photo of John Hempel, maintenance director

Morning Pointe Senior Living communities are a home for our residents. And just like any home, the buildings have to be taken care of. On Maintenance Director Day, March 4, we honor the individuals who keep our communities in good shape. Their duties range from preparing rooms for new residents to fixing faucets, managing the heating and air conditioning to responding to residents’ repair requests.

These gentlemen play an important role in the daily life and safety of our assisted living, personal care, and memory care residents. They also get the chance to develop friendships with the residents and their families.

We interviewed John Hempel, maintenance director at Morning Pointe of Collegedale at Greenbriar Cove, as well as 93-year-old resident Frances Durham, to talk to them about their relationship and the importance of the maintenance director role.

“He has been a perfect gentleman and has done everything I’ve asked, including hanging my special draperies, and found time for every problem I happen to have,” Frances said. “I adore him, and we all adore him.”

“Coming in and helping you guys comes from my heart,” John said, “It’s just part of me. Having the knowledge base I do from plumbing to electrical to hanging pictures on your walls – putting up your TV in just the right spot… it means a lot to me.”
