On May 6, 2024, The State Journal newspaper in Frankfort, Kentucky, honored its first-ever group of 10 Top Nurses, including Morning Pointe of Frankfort Senior Living nurse Drema Banta, LPN.
Drema and only nine other nurses in the town were honored out of 100 nominated, and she was the only one selected from the senior living field. More than 800 voters determined the winners.
“I was pretty surprised – I didn’t even know they were voting,” Drema said. “It’s such an honor. I’ve had other awards over the years, but with this coming from the wider community and the families, it’s more personal and means a lot.”
A licensed practical nurse for 29 years, Drema was inspired to pursue nursing when she was a child. Her grandmother had to go to the hospital frequently, and she would watch the nurses care for her. “I feel like it’s my calling from God to serve others,” Drema said.
Drema spent most of her nursing career as a rehab nurse before coming to Morning Pointe of Frankfort. She has enjoyed the change of being able to build longer relationships with her patients. “They become your family,” she said.
She especially likes serving seniors because of the wisdom they can share. “You go in thinking you can bless somebody, but they’re actually blessing you,” Drema said.
Staci Dennis, vice president of operations for Morning Pointe Senior Living’s Bluegrass Region, shared: “Drema’s unwavering dedication to our residents, her proactive approach to care, and her heartfelt compassion truly set her apart.”
