Nurses Week Spotlight: A Beautiful Bond Between Nurse and Resident

At Morning Pointe Senior Living, we believe that great care starts with great nurses. During Nurses Week, May 6-12, we’re proud to honor the dedicated RNs and LPNs who serve our residents with skill, compassion, and heart each and every day. From administering medication to offering a reassuring smile, our nurses play a vital role in helping residents live with dignity, purpose, and peace of mind. This week is a chance to pause and recognize the difference they make — not just through their clinical expertise, but through the deep connections they build.

In our latest Couch Conversation video, we sit in on a sweet and emotional conversation between one of our exceptional nurses and a cherished resident. These ladies show how these relationships form the heart of what we do.

Darlene Pope has been a licensed practical nurse with Morning Pointe Senior Living for more than eight years and received the 2024 Exceeding Expectations Award for the Nursing category. She is well loved throughout her assisted living community and the wider senior care community as well.

“I learned during nursing school that I enjoyed taking care of the senior residents more than I did the younger people,” Darlene shares in her Couch Conversation with resident Helen Stagnaro. “I feel like I can give you attention and love that sometimes you’re not able to get when your family’s not nearby.”

For Helen, Darlene is more than just a caregiver or a nurse; she is a true friend. “Everybody needs somebody special in their life, and you’re it for me,” she said. “You mean the most to me because you’re always smiling and you always make me feel good about myself. If we need something, we know that if we go to you, whatever we need will be taken care of.”

“You are special to me too,” Darlene says, “and you’ve become kind of like a mom—after my mom passed away, you took care of me.”

Conclusion

As we celebrate Nurses Week, we extend our deepest gratitude to all the remarkable nurses across all Morning Pointe communities. Your hard work, empathy, and commitment to excellence do not go unnoticed. You bring light into the lives of our residents and families — and you make our mission possible every single day. Thank you for your care, your calling, and your heart.
