Colleen Mason’s life has been dedicated to helping others, a value she continues to embody at Morning Pointe of Owensboro, Kentucky, Assisted Living. Her story is one of faith, compassion, and a heart for spreading joy.

A Career of Care and Compassion

Colleen’s nursing career began in 1975 when she earned her LPN certification, followed by her RN in 1979. Her favorite nursing memory is from her first day as a registered nurse when she had to start an IV on a 3-year-old patient. “I introduced myself to the cutest little girl,” Colleen recalls. “She asked me, ‘You’re not going to stick me, are you?’ I told her I had to, so she could feel better.” With a comforting presence and the reassurance of faith, Colleen performed the procedure while promising the little girl that Jesus would help them. “When it was over, I gave her a Shoney Bear. From that day forward, I always gave my patients Shoney Bears.”

A New Chapter at Morning Pointe

Colleen shared that after breaking her arm and undergoing surgery on her hand in 2024, she realized she needed assistance with daily activities. That July, she chose Heritage Place for its proximity to her son and the warm, home-like atmosphere. Morning Pointe Senior Living acquired the community in September and has been undergoing renovations and expanded clinical services since then.

Colleen has embraced her new community. “I feel great and don’t feel any older,” she says. One defining moment came when she casually told a fellow resident in the dining room, “I’m going to head back home,” referring to her apartment. “That’s when I realized I was comfortable with this being my home.”

Faith, Friendship, and Fulfillment

Colleen finds joy in sharing meals with friends in the dining room, forming close bonds with the other ladies in the community, and spreading the Lord’s love wherever she goes. “Being here has completely changed me. I love myself being here,” she shares.

Her deep sense of faith and compassion continues to inspire those around her, whether through her kind words, her infectious positivity, or her unwavering belief in the power of love and connection.

At Morning Pointe of Owensboro, Colleen has found not just a place to live but a place to thrive, surrounded by people who feel like family.
