RICHMOND, Ky. (January 25, 2021)
Though the years might have softened him, Fletcher Williams, a resident at Morning Pointe of Richmond, is a warrior. The World War II and Korean War veteran wrestled behind enemy lines on more than one occasion.As a D-Day veteran, he fought in the invasion of Normandy in 1944. He was injured nearly a month later on Independence Day and once he healed, he was back to fight in Sicily and Salerno, Italy, and at The Battle of the Bulge. He came home with a number of medals and ribbons with stars on them. This sergeant was honored with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his efforts.
While wartime is a memory of the past, he’s now fighting for something else—his health and the health of those around him. After 30 years working for the Bluegrass Army Depot and spending time with family, Fletcher now lives a simpler life at Morning Pointe, where he gets to spend time with friends and enjoy retirement.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, uncertainty seems to be the only thing most folks are certain about. However, there is one other thing residents like Fletcher are set on: getting the vaccine. Fletcher was one of many of our residents to receive the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.His smile said it all—he knew he was making a difference in fighting against the virus. For him it’s about family. He’s used to seeing his daughters and grandchildren face to face and during the pandemic, that’s a risk he can’t take. He took the vaccine so he could see them, all of them, together again, and so he could be a hero for the people around him one more time.You could be a hero, too.Morning Pointe Senior Living is working to help curb the spread of COVID-19 by partnering with CVS Pharmacy to administer the vaccine to residents and associates in each of our 35 communities.
