The Lantern at Morning Pointe Frankfort helps basketball player launch career in nursing

Emma Coleman-O’Bryan

Emma Coleman-O’Bryan is a Resident Assistant at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Frankfort, Kentucky, a memory care community. For her, working at The Lantern has been a great start to her healthcare career.

Emma started her job at in February 2022, originally attracted by how close the building was to her home.

“I’ve always been passionate about memory care,” Emma shared. “I enjoy patient care. I enjoy hanging out with the residents. You do your activities of daily living (ADLs) with them, but you also get to be more involved with their lives.”

When Emma started at The Lantern, she had a bachelor’s degree in health science under her belt from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, where she attended on a full basketball scholarship. During that time, she also took a season off to play basketball overseas in Albania!

Emma has been working at The Lantern while going to school for her associate’s degree in nursing. She graduated from Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky, in December. And she is thankful for the support she has received for her education while working at The Lantern.

“They’ve been good about working with my class schedule,” Emma shared. “The nurses have been really helpful. If I’m not understanding something in school, I can take it to them. I feel like the work environment is so important, and they have helped me to feel a little more comfortable.”

Emma plans to move in February for the next step in her career and is waiting to hear back from the residency programs she has applied for. The Lantern at Morning Pointe has been the stepping stone to help her grow.

“I’ve had a great time at The Lantern,” Emma said. “They’ve really helped me get my foot in the door in healthcare. If you’re going to work in memory care, you need to work at The Lantern.”
