From Oak Ridge to International Peace Efforts: Morning Pointe Resident Reflects on Extraordinary Career

Chattanooga, Tenn. —May 26, 2026— At Morning Pointe of Greenbriar Cove Assisted Living, everyday conversations often reveal extraordinary life experiences. Recently, residents and associates found themselves captivated by the stories of one resident whose career reached far beyond East Tennessee.

At 80 years old, Mike Ehinger has a lifetime of experiences to share. Whether talking about restoring classic cars, traveling abroad, or spending decades in the nuclear industry, Mike’s stories have become a favorite topic among friends at the community.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Mike later made his way to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a city long connected to science and nuclear research. His interest in cars began early in life and grew into a passion for restoring them over the years. While he appreciated all kinds of vehicles, the Mini Cooper remained one of his favorites.

Mike spent his career working in the nuclear industry as a fuel specialist before serving with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria, from 1998 to 2005. During that time, he monitored nuclear fuel efforts in Japan and worked in international safeguards for nearly three decades.

Mike’s work with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria, contributed to efforts that were recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize.

Although Mike says he has “too many favorite memories to share” from his career, the stories and experiences continue to leave an impression on those around him today. Residents and associates alike enjoy gathering to hear about the places he traveled, the work he accomplished, and the people he met throughout his life.

Still, when asked what he enjoys most these days, Mike’s answer is simple: people.

“The people themselves” are what he enjoys most about sharing stories and spending time with others.

Family also remains especially meaningful to him. Mike describes coming from a very special family filled with sweet memories that have stayed with him throughout his life, from welcoming his children into the world to later celebrating the births of his grandchildren.

At Morning Pointe of Greenbriar Cove Assisted Living, moments like these serve as reminders that every resident brings a unique story worth sharing. Through conversations, friendships, and shared experiences, residents continue learning from one another and creating meaningful connections each day.
