Planning Ahead Before a Crisis: What Families Should Know

LEXINGTON, Ky. — May 1, 2026—For many families, conversations about aging, care needs, and next steps often happen under pressure. A free community event in Lexington aims to change that by offering a space to ask questions, hear from local experts, and walk away with practical guidance.

The Morning Pointe Foundation will host “Aging Well in Lexington,” a Caregiver Café on May 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Morning Pointe of Lexington-East Assisted Living and Memory Care, located at 150 Shoreside Dr, Lexington, KY 40515. The event is open to the public and designed for caregivers, adult children, and families navigating decisions around aging and long-term care.

The evening will feature a panel of trusted local professionals who will lead an open, question-driven discussion centered on real-life concerns families face every day. Topics will include preparing essential legal documents before a crisis, understanding the differences between power of attorney and guardianship, navigating the process of selling a home during a transition, and determining eligibility for VA Aid and Attendance benefits. Attendees will also gain clarity on Medicare enrollment timelines and what happens if deadlines are missed.

Panelists include Dustin Williams, Licensed Realtor with REMAX Elite Realty; Phillip Morgan, President of Always Best Care; Katie Finnell, Attorney with Bluegrass Elderlaw PLLC; and Angela Zeek, Health and Government Benefits Unit Manager with Legal Aid of the Bluegrass.

Guests are invited to enjoy coffee and desserts while connecting with local resources. Vendor booths will also be available for those interested in sharing services with attendees.
