Residents have been moving in to The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Hardin Valley, welcomed this month by the community’s theme of Fabulous Flower Shower.

The May flower theme is just part of the structured life enrichment new residents are discovering at the new all-memory care community. Located at 2433 Reagan Road in Knoxville, The Lantern opened its doors on April 4. Many of the new residents are from the Hardin Valley area and benefit from receiving care, support, and socialization close to family.

Grand Opening May 15

For the public, The Lantern will host its Grand Opening on Thursday, May 15, from 4-7 p.m. The formal ribbon-cutting and program will start at 4:30 p.m.

Program participants will include Greg A. Vital, Morning Pointe Senior Living co-founder and president; the Hardin Valley Academy Chamber Choir; the Anderson County High NJROTC; and local dignitaries. Following the program, attendees will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres and tours.

Life Enrichment for Two Levels of Care

The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Hardin Valley, includes two distinct levels of memory care, expanding the model of care on campus. These are Lamplight—a large area for residents with early-stage Alzheimer’s and dementia who are more active—and Lantern, a more intimate and quiet space designed for more advanced stages.

Life enrichment activities will be planned to meet residents at their unique cognitive levels, with more active engagement for residents who can benefit from greater levels of mental stimulation. As a resident’s disease progresses, transitioning to the Lantern neighborhood brings an adjusted level of engagement. Here, the activities are designed more for comfort, a sense of safety, and gentle community while steering away from overstimulation or agitation.

Common to both the Lamplight and Lantern neighborhoods is the emphasis on providing residents with a sense of meaning and purpose. The community will use Morning Pointe Senior Living’s Meaningful Day™ program, a personalized approach to memory care that focuses on each resident’s past experiences, interests, and abilities. Associates intentionally create engaging activities that feel natural and familiar, which adds to a feeling of safety and security for residents.

“Morning Pointe’s mission is to help seniors live their best life,” said Greg A. Vital, Morning Pointe Senior Living co-founder and president. “Providing our memory care residents with ways to connect with others and activities that are personally meaningful to them brings out a very human a sense of purpose and of joy. We have seen time and again how having this sense of safety, companionship, and fun in our memory care communities can help our residents thrive and experience brighter moments—even as their disease progresses.”
