Planning for Long-Term Care Starts with the Right Questions

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 3, 2026) — Families navigating aging, long-term care, and financial planning often find themselves asking the same questions: How do we protect what we’ve worked for? What documents do we really need? What happens if a loved one can no longer make decisions?

The Morning Pointe Foundation Caregiver Café will be held on March 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at 233 Ruccio Way in Lexington. This free, open-to-the-public event will bring together trusted local experts to provide clarity, practical guidance, and answers to common concerns surrounding elder care, veterans’ benefits, Medicare, Medicaid, and estate planning.

Providing free caregiver education programs like this is part of the Morning Pointe Foundation’s mission to advance the care and strengthen the delivery of senior services for generations to come.

Featured speakers include Mike McKinley, an elder law attorney and MBA graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law. McKinley focuses on asset protection, estate planning, and long-term care strategies. Since opening his own practice in 2017, he has helped families safeguard millions of dollars through effective planning. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and Elder Counsel.

McKinley will address questions such as:

  1. How can I protect my assets if I need long-term care?
  2. What documents should I have in place as I age?
  3. What happens if my loved one can no longer make decisions?

Also presenting is Always Best Care of Greater Lexington, led by President Phil Morgan, a U.S. Navy submarine veteran who is passionate about helping veterans access the care they have earned. Phil and Sarah Morgan opened the Lexington office in 2017 and have since supported numerous families in coordinating in-home care.

Topics will include:

  1. What are the steps to obtain care through the VA?
  2. If I need more hours than the VA provides, can I pay privately?
  3. Is the spouse of a veteran eligible for VA care benefits?

A local Health and Life Insurance Broker specializing in Medicare education and plan selection will also provide guidance on:

  1. Whether Medicare impacts Medicaid coverage
  2. The difference between Medicare Supplement (Medigap) and Medicare Advantage plans
  3. The differences between HMO and PPO plans and what families should consider

The Caregiver Café format allows attendees to hear expert insight and ask direct questions in a welcoming, conversational setting. The event is designed for adult children, spouses, caregivers, and anyone planning ahead for their own future.
