With the aging population growing at an unprecedented rate, families across Kentucky are facing tough decisions about how to care for their loved ones. From financial planning to navigating Medicaid and VA benefits, the choices can be overwhelming. That’s why the Morning Pointe Foundation is bringing its Caregiver Café panel discussion to Lexington – offering families free access to expert advice on March 25 at Morning Pointe of Lexington-East at 150 Shoreside Drive.

The Caregiver Café

The event, titled “How to Make Tough Decisions for Your Aging Loved One,” will run from 6–7:30 p.m. and feature a panel of four professionals specializing in elder law, financial planning, veterans’ benefits and recent changes in Kentucky regulations regarding senior care. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain practical insights on securing care and resources for aging family members.

“As more families find themselves navigating the complexities of senior care, these discussions are more important than ever,” said Miranda Perez, executive director of the Morning Pointe Foundation. “The goal of the Caregiver Café is to provide the knowledge and tools people need before a crisis occurs, so they can make informed, confident decisions about their loved one’s future.”

This year’s panelists include:

  • Mikel D. McKinley, Jr., attorney and owner of Elder Care Law of KY
  • Michael Ayersman, insurance broker with MEA Senior Solutions
  • Mary Ross-Tarkington, M.ED., NCC, national director of client relations with Elder Veterans Legal Aid Group
  • Lisa Biddle-Puffer, vice president of quality and regulatory affairs for Kentucky Center for Assisted Living

With long-term care costs rising and healthcare options becoming increasingly complex, experts urge families to plan ahead rather than waiting until they are in an urgent situation. The Caregiver Café event aims to bridge that gap, offering guidance in a supportive and informative setting.

This free event is open to the public, and no tickets are required. Light refreshments will be provided. Morning Pointe of Lexington-East is located at 150 Shoreside Drive. For more information, visit morningpointe.com/caregiver-cafe/.
