The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Lexington, has named Sarah Aker, RN, as its new executive director.

In this role, Aker oversees daily operations at the Alzheimer’s and memory care community located at 225 Ruccio Way.

Aker worked as a multi-unit manager in hospitality/food service for more than 11 years. She started in healthcare as a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home and moved her way up, graduating from nursing school in 2014 with honors in Outstanding Clinical Performance. Over the past eight years, she has held multiple titles, including nursing unit supervisor of skilled rehabilitation, MDS coordinator for Medicare, director of admissions for the Forcht Group of Kentucky and director of nursing at Morning Pointe of Frankfort, Kentucky.

“I came to love senior care instantly during my clinical experience, when I realized what a blessing it would be to care for those who have already cared for us, especially with memory care,” said Aker. “We have such an opportunity to give assistance, guidance and life-enriching programs to our residents and families to help with the stages of their dementia. What better way is there to give back?”

“I have worked with Sarah in a director of nursing role, and her compassion and dedication to her residents is amazing,” said Staci Dennis, vice president of operations for Morning Pointe Senior Living’s Bluegrass Region. “I am so thrilled to have her on my team again. We are blessed to have her.”

Originally from Bell County, Kentucky, Aker currently resides in Corbin with her husband, Shane, and their six children. She enjoys all the sports activities her family is involved with, including basketball and baseball.

The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Lexington offers specialized programs for early to moderately severe stages of Alzheimer’s that focus on individual interests, life experiences and personal strengths to ensure each resident benefits from personalized and purposeful support.
