ATHENS, Tenn. (September 30, 2025) – Nearly 200 residents, families, associates, and community partners gathered to celebrate a milestone moment: the 25th anniversary of Morning Pointe of Athens Assisted Living. The event, filled with joy, gratitude, and reflection, honored a quarter-century of compassionate senior care in McMinn County.
Crystal Sutton, Executive Director, shared how meaningful the journey has been:
“It has been phenomenal for Morning Pointe to care for seniors here in McMinn County for 25 years. Personally, I’ve been blessed to be part of this journey for the past 10 years, and I can’t imagine a greater privilege than serving our residents and families alongside such a dedicated team.”
Families in attendance spoke about the love and attentive care their loved ones receive at Morning Pointe, while community partners praised the organization for “leading with their hearts” and positively impacting both residents and the broader community.

Jim Clark, whose mother has been a resident since 2023, said, “A nice building doesn’t provide care. It takes the people there. At Morning Pointe of Athens, resident care is first, and that’s paramount, because when I’m traveling, I never worry one second about my mom’s care or her safety. They’ve treated my mom with respect and made sure she has everything she needs. I really couldn’t ask for my mom to have better care.”
Looking back, Clark added, “Other places were also pretty, but when it came down to it, we knew Morning Pointe Senior Living was the right choice. They don’t have to give away free rent to fill the building—because people want to be here.”
Community Impact
Morning Pointe of Athens has been more than a home—it has been a hub of service. From volunteering and hosting monthly luncheons for the Athens Senior Center and Grace & Mercy Ministries, to supporting local partnerships and caregiver initiatives, the community continues to live out its mission of service. Through Morning Pointe Foundation events, Athens has raised more than $68,000 in the past six years, including $4,500 at the Women’s Conference and $17,000 at this year’s annual golf tournament, providing scholarships for nursing, physical therapy, and culinary students in the community.

Growth and Milestones
Over the past 25 years, Morning Pointe of Athens has continued to evolve. Major renovations in 2020 refreshed the community with new flooring, furniture, and décor. This year brought even more upgrades, including a state-of-the-art nurse call system and innovative iPads for resident assistants to improve charting and care efficiency.
Morning Pointe has also fostered beloved traditions, from annual Easter egg hunts to fall Trick-or-Treating events that draw nearly 800 visitors each year. The community also partners with the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department for fundraisers like “Shop with a Cop,” hosting Santa photos and holiday festivities for local families.
Honoring Associates
The anniversary also celebrated the associates who have made Morning Pointe of Athens the special place it is today. Long-standing team members were recognized for their years of service, including Jill Watson, CNA (17 years); Bobbie Splawn, LPN (17 years); Johnnie Watson, FSD (14 years); Phyllis Dale, RA (15 years); and many more who have served between 3 and 14 years. These associates, alongside new team members, exemplify Morning Pointe’s commitment to excellence in care and community.
Looking Ahead
As the celebration looked back on 25 years of memories, it also looked ahead to Morning Pointe’s future. With continued investments in people, technology, and programs, the Athens campus will carry its legacy of compassion, community, and service into the decades to come.
