Morning Pointe of Columbia Nursing Director Earns Dementia Practitioner Certification

Britney Hill, director of nursing at Morning Pointe of Columbia, Tennessee, Assisted Living and Memory Care, recently earned her certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner®.

Dementia Practitioner Certification

The certification is given through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) and recognizes a commitment to excellence in dementia care. Morning Pointe of Columbia includes a memory care wing, The Lantern, in addition to assisted living, so Hill is able to put her education to use every day.

“I wanted to learn new approaches and different interventions for our dementia residents,” said Hill, who has been a licensed practical nurse since 2012. She was a certified nursing assistant for 10 years previous to that and has been at Morning Pointe of Columbia for 10 years. “So much has changed in the last 23 years,” she added.

The training focuses on ways that caregivers can provide person-centered care to those living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Hill took the initiative on her own to go through the class with the NCCDP.

“I grew up with wonderful grandparents but lost three of them early in my life,” Hill said. “My last remaining grandparent died from dementia in 2019. Working with seniors is my way of filling the huge hole that losing my grandparents left in my life. It’s my way of giving back to those who have paved the way before us.”
