Upon completion of Phase II, Morning Pointe of Danville will expand its senior living and Alzheimer’s care services.
The new senior living community is more than halfway complete and set to open this fall.
In addition to the current memory care and dementia services, Morning Pointe is adding care for earlier stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia. This will allow memory care residents and their families to receive support earlier in the disease process, establish routines and maximize their independence and delay the disease progress as long as possible.
Increasing Demand for Memory Care
The need for memory care and dementia care services across the United States has been growing. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, approximately 81,000 Kentuckians ages 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s, and with the aging population, the numbers are increasing.
With the increase in dementia cases comes a greater need for clinical care and support for families of individuals facing a recent diagnosis. The demand has grown for secure and dementia-friendly residences where these individuals can find coordinated care tailored for their stage of disease, as well as meaningful interactions and activities suited to their needs, interests and abilities.
Alzheimer’s and memory care will grow to encompass 60 apartments. It will encompass two levels of care under one roof – Lamplight for early stages of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and Lantern for the more advanced stages. Residents can engage at a level of activity and care that provides the right amount of mental stimulation without being either underchallenged or overwhelmed. Care staff will be specially trained on the different stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia and how to care for each resident’s needs with compassion and comfort.
Responding to the Need in Danville
“We always want to be responsive to the changing needs of those we serve,” said Greg A. Vital, Morning Pointe Senior Living co-founder and president. “As we see more people considering Danville as a great place to retire, there’s a growing need for senior services for families here. With the expansion of our Danville campus, we will be able to offer a wider continuum of services for these families – from the mostly independent seniors needing some care oversight in our new community to those in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s who need a safe but still stimulating environment, to those in the later stages who need a quieter place with more medical support.”
Memory care programming will continue to include the Best Friends™ Approach, Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach™ to Care, Meaningful Day™ purposeful programming, music therapy, art therapy and cuddle therapy. The community will maintain its strong focus on clinical care with physical and occupational therapies, life enrichment, wellness offerings and intergenerational activities, as well as its Farm to Table program with local, farm-fresh and seasonal ingredients.
