LEXINGTON, Ky. — May 29, 2026 — As scammers increasingly use artificial intelligence to clone voices and impersonate loved ones in frightening “grandparent scams,” the Morning Pointe of Lexington Assisted Living and Memory Care campus is partnering with Team Kentucky Stop Scams and the Kentucky State Police to host a free community Lunch & Learn focused on helping families recognize today’s evolving fraud tactics and protect themselves before becoming victims.
The Kentucky Office of the Attorney General recently warned Kentuckians about the rise of AI-driven scams in which fraudsters can clone a loved one’s voice using just a few seconds of audio gathered from social media or online videos. These scams often involve urgent requests for money through wire transfers, gift cards, or payment apps, preying on fear and emotion.
The STOP Scams Lunch & Learn will take place Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Morning Pointe of Lexington Assisted Living and Memory Care campus, located at 233 Ruccio Way in Lexington. The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfgjE0rsa9OzW46RKnsXPHaznh_VAiPEKh7g6n2-RDCtKwYIg/viewform?pli=1
Representatives from the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions’ Team Kentucky Stop Scams initiative and Kentucky State Police will lead presentations designed to help attendees learn how to recognize warning signs of scams, protect personal information, and understand steps to take if they become victims of fraud.
The event will include lunch, educational resources, and opportunities for attendees to connect with experts following the presentation.
“Scams are becoming more sophisticated every day, and many are specifically targeting older adults and their families,” said Miranda Perez. “We are proud to partner with Team Kentucky Stop Scams and the Kentucky State Police to bring this important information to our community and help people feel more confident recognizing and responding to potential fraud.”
Scams targeting older adults continue to impact families across Kentucky, from phone and email fraud to identity theft and financial exploitation. Organizers hope the event will provide practical tools and peace of mind for seniors, caregivers, and community members alike.
Resource tables will remain open after the presentation for guests seeking additional information and support materials. Additional scam prevention resources are also available through the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office.
