The Westland Cornholers team from Morning Pointe of Knoxville, Tennessee, returned home triumphant Tuesday after Morning Pointe Senior Living’s cornhole tournament.

The Knoxville assisted living community team played the Cornhole Colonels from Morning Pointe of Powell, Tennessee, at Shoreline Church. The tournament was a playoff between the two groups, which tied for first place during the company’s spring cornhole tournament.

The community teams also faced off against four corporate leaders, including co-founder and president Franklin Farrow.

“I was surprised how prepared both teams were,” said Farrow. “They had their cheerleaders, they had their T-shirts, and they were good.”

The winning team received a trophy to keep until next year’s tournament.

“Our residents truly had their heart in the game and practiced hard!” said Kari Christopher, life enrichment director at Morning Pointe of Knoxville. “We always stood by this game being ‘for fun,’ but as it turns out, they all wanted a win, and they fought for it! It was well deserved!”

One of the Westland Cornholers champions shared about winning, “It felt great! It even felt good to play. Also, I’m glad that the home office was there; they seemed to enjoy it. Everyone there had a good time, and that’s what it’s all about!”

“Even though Powell did not win the trophy, our residents had a great time and would love to do it again,” said Beverly Smith, life enrichment director at Morning Pointe of Powell. “They thought it went well and enjoyed throwing! We had several family members come to cheer them on, and even a great-grandson was there for the action!”
